The field footprint
A typical 1 MVA distribution transformer with its LV connections produces fields exceeding 1 µT up to several metres away, particularly above and below the room where structural slabs offer little attenuation.
Design levers
Position the room under non-sensitive uses, keep LV runs short and tight, orient the distribution board away from occupied rooms and reserve space for a future shield during civil design.
Verification
A commissioning measurement under representative load closes the loop and provides the documentation authorities and building owners expect.
